Once some data has been uploaded to a database on your site, you can now set how you want users to search and view the data.
On the page you want the data to be displayed, select the Insert button. Select from the drop down box the 'Database' element. Hit the Add Item button to confirm your selection and this will direct you to the 'Database edit item' screen.
- Data source: Choose a database to use as the data source for this element.
- Alignment: select the alignment
- Interface: Use the drop-down lists here to select ways in which users will be able to browse through your data. The search box allows a user to enter a search term to find records in the database. You will specify a list of fields that searches can be matched against, then fields will be searched for whatever the user looks for, and matching records will be shown to the user. The A-to-Z listing orders records by a particular field and allows all records to be listed by first letter. This makes sense for lists of companies or lists of people by surname, but would perhaps be less useful for accommodation lists grouped by region (use category listing instead) or in a situation where you do not want users to easily see lots of records at once. The category listing allows a user to browse through your records by category and subcategory. This is useful if you have fields in your database that this is meaningful for, for instance a field called "County" could be a category field and a field called "Town" could be a sub-category field; users would then be presented with a list of counties, and upon choosing one would be presented with a list of towns; clicking on a town would show all records whose town and county matched the current selection.
- Search box text: If the search box is enabled, this is the text that appears before it. A good default choice is "Search:".
- Search button text: If the search box is enabled, this is the text that appears in the search button. A good default choice is "Go".
- Click the Store Changes button to store the changes you have made.
