Once you have stored changes within the database element, you can now set up the element so that data is displayed in the way that you want it to be displayed.
On returning to the edit page screen after clicking Store Changes on the element settings, you will find that the database element looks like this: Clicking on the Insert button in either area allows you to add elements determining the format in which results will be displayed. | Search Results: |
This area of the database element describes how search results, category contents, and A-to-Z lists will be shown to the user.
Enter one or more "Database Field" elements in this area, in the layout you want the results to appear.
For best results, insert a "Table" element, and then make the first row of the table a list of headings like the example below. Then put your "Database Field" elements in the second row of the table in the order you want them shown. In the search results, the first row will be shown and then the second row will contain the results of the search, and will be repeated as many times as necessary. |

This area of the database element describes how a single record will be displayed.
Single records are displayed when they are linked to from the results of a search, browse, or A-to-Z listing - these links are made by putting a Database Field element using the "- Record ID -" field somewhere in the search results area above.

Once you have finished setting up the database search results and record display areas, the page editing screen may look something like this: Databases are one of the most complex and powerful components available, and so you may find it beneficial to experiment for a while to get a feel for how it all fits together. |
