News item date ordering

This option sets whether news items are shown in descending (newest first) or ascending (oldest first) date order. The default setting is descending order.
 
This can be useful if you are using a news item to display different types of information. If you are publishing some results, it is reasonable to assume you will want the most recent results at the top of the page, so in this case 'descending' would be chosen.
 
However, you might want to display a list of events. In this case you might want the nearest event to the current date to appear at the top of the page to give it higher priority and remind people that the event is near. In this case you would use the 'ascending' option.
 
These options can be configured by editing a news item element and selecting the preferred option from the 'Date order' drop-down box.
